So, I saw this today. What do you other LDS members think? I thought it was interesting. And if you are not LDS, please share your thoughts too.

I'm not LDS, but I am Catholic. And I think this is fantastic.
Conversation is good. Understanding is good. Doctrine doesn't have to change (it won't), but I think there's a culture that needs to change. Coming from a community that talked so much about love, I can't understand why there isn't more.
I think it's good that they'll be talking, even if I believe it won't result in any changes. I've never understood the mindset that dictates that one cannot talk to one's enemies.
Mormon (or ex-Mormon) gays/lesbians should know better than to expect changes in church doctrine and policies, especially with regards to things like expulsion from BYU for sexual activity. For any church that believes it is the true church, an act will not be a sin today and not a sin tomorrow.
I think it's great that they are talking, and I think its a great way for the First Presidency to reach out to this group. But like others have said, the doctrine won't change.
Oh, and the BYU honor code? Get real. Heterosexual students can't have sex either & stay at BYU. Why would G/L/TG? There is NO WAY BYU is going to change their standpoint, they are stricter than the Church as a whole on everything. They are NOT going to suddenly decide that if you are gay you don't need an ecclesiastical endorsement anymore. But whatever.
