I do not like Mothers Day. I hate the obligation that I felt all my life to do something for my mother because I have to, not because I want to. I honestly wish that we did not have these type of days. I just read
this post on
Feminist Mormon Housewives. Now, that title of a blog might turn some of you off. But this specific post was amazing. Me, the woman of little tears, had tears in her eyes by the time she finished reading it. I wish I could be friends with the woman that wrote it. I would encourage anyone who has issues with their mother that they need to read this post. And even if you don't, I think you'll like it. You can leave comments there or here. Whichever you'd like. Just read it!!!

Terina- this is great. Will you enjoy mother's day this year? Maybe in a different way? I know I will.
By the way- I love the idea of the Feminist Mormon Housewifes blog...
If you don't like feeling like you're obligated to do something for your mother on Mother's Day, why not just try doing nothing and then see what happens? If nothing else, it might make you feel a little better...and maybe start some dialogue between you and your mother.
Though it's harder to do than say I agree 100% with Steve. If you want to honor your Mom on Mothers' Day, then you should do it. Not only does doing something out of guilt defeat the purpose, but it also makes you feel out of control.
I'd like to be hopeful like Steve and wish that a dialogue between you and your Mom gets started...but I doubt that.
You could always do something that comes from the grandkids to their Grandma. That's what I do. Then, if he wants, Eric can do something for his Mom.
PS - My Grandma is in town this weekend which is why you couldn't get a hold of me earlier...hum...
your grandma is ALWAYS in town. maybe she should just move in with patti....
